Bernard Cornwell has become increasingly prolific over the years, and while the flow of Sharpe books has slowed, Cornwell is spreading his wings in other areas.

Closest to Sharpe in era is "Gallows Thief". Set shortly after Waterloo, the hero is the impoverished Rider Sandman, late Captain in the 52nd, who investigates a society murder. A nice idea for an entire series.
