Bernard Cornwell has become increasingly prolific over the years, and while the flow of Sharpe books has slowed, Cornwell is spreading his wings in other areas.
Closest to Sharpe in era is "Gallows Thief". Set shortly after Waterloo, the hero is the impoverished Rider Sandman, late Captain in the 52nd, who investigates a society murder. A nice idea for an entire series.
"Redcoat" is the story of a British soldier fighting the Americans.
Nathaniel Starbuck is a Northerner fighting for the South, a 'copperhead', disliked and distrusted by both sides.
Set at the start of the 100 years war, these form the story of Thomas of Hookton, an English archer out for vengeance and the retrieval of the family treasure.
The "Warlord" series is set in the dark ages.
