Framfield lies in the flat "low" Weald area of Sussex (as opposed to the hilly, iron-producing "High Weald"). It is NNE of Lewes and part of the Rape of Pevensey, close to the centre of East Sussex. The parishes surrounding Framfield are Little Horsted, Uckfield, Buxted, Mayfield, Waldron, East Hoathly, Laughton and Ringmer.
A Vision of Britain: Framfield
With regard to genealogy, Framfield seems to be the place where several of my ancestral lines come together at different times.
William Hook was born in Framfield and married Elizabeth Richardson in Alciston in 1756. Their first child was baptised in Framfield in 1757, but in 1758 William, Elizabeth and their infant daughter were removed to Little Horsted by the Parish of Framfield and their next child, William, was born in Little Horsted. Their third child Elizabeth was born back in Framfield, but the couple were back in Little Horsted for the birth of their last two children, the last being my 5th great-grandmother Martha Hook (baptised 26 May 1765). Martha married John Roser on 28 Oct 1782 in East Hoathly. John and his two siblings (Elizabeth and Richard) were all baptised in Framfield between 1754 and 1759, the offspring of Richard Roser of Lindfield and Susanna Weaver. Susanna was baptised in Isfield but her six siblings were baptised in Framfield. Her parents were William Weaver and Mary Field, both natives of Framfield.

The great-great-grandfather of Thomas Isted who married Mary Wilding in Little Horsted in 1756 was John Issted (1609). John and his four siblings (the offspring of Rychard Issted and Margaret Tayller) were all baptised in Framfield between 1606 and 1617.

Other ancestral surnames with connection to Framfield include Apps, Burges, Colle, Davy, Evendon
The church probably dates back to the late 12th century, when the cult of St Thomas á Becket was at its height. There are lat 13th century remains in the North Chapel, but the bulk of the church was rebuilt after a fire in 1509. More modifications occurred in the 19th century.
